All About Me

Hello! My name is Jackie Emr I am a fourth grade teacher at Travilah Elementary school. I live in Bethesda, MD. In May 2009, I graduated from Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY with a B.S. in Elementary Education and a certification from the New York State Department of Education to teach first through sixth grade. In February 2011, I also received my certification from the Maryland State Department of Education (first through sixth grades). I am also working on my Masters Degree in Educational Technology at the University of Maryland - University College.

When I'm not teaching, I love to spend my free time at the pool. I am the Head Coach for the Wootton High School Swim & Dive Team during the winter and over the summer, I am the Head Coach for the Stonebridge Sharks in Gaithersburg.

I love flowers and try to keep as many alive in my classroom as I can! I have two cats whose names are Johnny and Jewel. Johnny is white with orange spots and Jewel is grey with a white belly. They are my babies and I'm sure you'll hear all about them!

My Teaching Philosophy:

I believe that students benefit from an open, engaging environment. In order to provide them with this, it is my goal to make sure that students feel comfortable asking and answering questions both in class and in private. By using interactive technology and fun, engaging lessons, students will enjoy learning and feel more comfortable taking risks with their knowledge.
